Hedi has been hiding since she was twelve years old and a werewolf killed her father and the fae murdered her fae mother. The fae took her twin to Merenwyn and left Hedi behind in a magical cupboard. She watched as her crush - Robson Trowbridge - came into the house and found her parents but left before he found her.Since that day, she has been hiding with her mother's sister Lou believing that Lou was the only full fae left on earth and that the werewolves would kill both of them if they knew she had escaped the massacre. Her only friend is an amulet containing a fae being. She spends her days as a barista and part-time thief caring her her aunt who is fading.
Then her aunt is kidnapped by weres and to rescue her Hedi needs to find another amulet - an amulet she last saw around the throat of Trowbridge. She has to convince him to help her and deal with her crush at the same time.
The book was filled with intense moments both between Hedi and Bridge and when they were captured and tortured byt the weres. Hedi's ability to enter a world halfway between the human world and the fae world where souls are kept also added more intensity to the story.
And talk about a cliffhanger ending... Luckily, there are currently three more books in this series.

The Trouble with Fate A Mystwalker Novel Leigh Evans 9781250006400 Books Reviews
I found The Trouble with Fate from an author's blog that I read. When looking at the product page it looked as though it was getting a lot of positive reviews from many authors whose boooks I read and really enjoy. Based on the reviews and the premise I thought I would give the book a try.
This book follows Hedi who is half Fae and half Were. When she was twelve both of her parents were killed and her twin brother was taken to Merewyn (Fae world). She was assumed to have died and has been in hiding from both the Fae and the Weres for ten years. When her childhood crush, Robson Trowbridge, walks into the Starbucks she's working in she realizes that she can't hide from her past forever. And when her aunt is kidnapped by the Weres she needs Robson Trowbridge's help to get her back.
For the most part I really enjoyed this book. There were scenes that would creep up on me and when I would get to them I wouldn't be able to put the book down because I would want to find out what would happen. But there were also a few scenes that dragged a bit for me and were tough to get through. Also, this being the first book in a series there was a lot of backstory and oftentimes these would be filled with too much description and not enough dialogue to break it all up. I'm hoping that since the backstory has been explained the second book with have more of a driven storyline.
Hedi is a good character. She's nothing too remarkable. She's very average by Fae and Were standards which is refreshing. It gets old and boring to read about heroines who are gorgeous and excell at everything they do. It was nice to see her not know the answers to everything but still try to work her way through her problems.
Robson was a good hero for the same reasons. He is alpha but instead of readily embracing being an alpha he tries his hardest to reject it. He's also scarred from the past. The same night that Hedi lost her family Robson as well lost his entire family.
I like that both of our characters, by the end, still have things to work out and because of that the romance in this book is a little unconventional. Yes there's romance, but we don't get an instant HEA. It will be something that has to be worked for and I'm very interested to see where Leigh Evans takes our characters in the next book(s).
Even though there were some tough spots to get through I still recommend this book mainly on the basis that by the end it's set up for the next books in the series and I think that makes this book worth it.

Hedi Peacock is living a lie. She's half Fae, half werewolf and a mystwalker and completely lost in life. After being attacked by a pack of weres, Heidi has to retrieve an amulet from her childhood crush who she believes may have played a part in her parent's death in order to rescue her kidnapped aunt. This book is kind of a hot mess. It suffers from the first book syndrome of trying to tell the reader too much information. This book felt like a friend trying to tell you a good story but kept on stopping and changing direction when she remembered something else. There were bits and pieces left all over and not all of them made sense.
I really loved Heidi. I have an affinity for troubled souls and she is certainly that. She's caught between two worlds being a half-Fae half-Were. She had to witness the deaths of her parents. She watched her twin brother carted away to the Fae realm. On top of all that, Heidi had to live under the radar her crazy Aunt Lou and Merry, her enchanted Fae amulet. She's torn. She's lost. She's lonely. Despite all of her heartbreak, she finds ways to compartmentalize her pain to move on to the next challenge.
Enter her childhood crush, Robson Trowbridge, the son of the deceased Alpha who is trying to figure out who killed his father, mother, brother and wife. I pieced together that he's been spending the last 10 years at the bottom of a bottle, but returns to Creemore at the behest of his sister, who is mentioned once and never talked about again. Trowbridge, (what a mouthful of a name), has the amulet that opens the portal to the Fae realm. Heidi nearly steals the amulet out from under him but is caught and in what seems like the next breath, they are doing it and being mated.
It's understandable how she could very quickly fall for this man - she's young, naïve and lonely. Trowbridge is one minute mooning over his deceased wife and the next trying to get into Heidi's pants. The whole business of them hooking up and then mating was glossed over and left me feeling quite confused. Finally, the biggest head scratcher was the amulet. Supposedly made of Fae gold and therefore mutable, it mainly hung out around Heidi's boobs. I just couldn't use the written words to form a visual in my mind that made sense. Sometimes it would hop around and move and other times, I think, would grow gold vines and twist around things? I'm still not sure even after reading the passage about 10 times.
Despite all the WTH moments, I really did feel like my girlfriend was telling me a good story but talking so fast she was leaving out important things. I'm continuing on to the second book with a firm hope that the author fills in the blanks because the writing is certainly there.
